Outdoor sound recording

Choose a quiet moment

Listen for a minute before recording. Traffic, wind and voices may change quickly. Decide whether the soundscape itself is the subject or whether you need a more isolated sound.

Outdoor sound recording

Control wind and handling

Use an appropriate wind cover, hold or mount the recorder steadily and test levels with headphones. Leave headroom for sudden loud events. A clean thirty-second sample can be more useful than a long distorted recording.
